Treatment
Interval hypoxia-hyperoxia therapy (IHHT)
IHHT improves the energy supply of the cells. It trains the mitochondria through repeated alternations between hypoxia and hyperoxia. At rest you breathe through a mask, for a few minutes more oxygen and then less oxygen again, several times in alternation, for a total of 30 to 50 minutes.
What IHHT sets off in the body
The mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell. They produce ATP from oxygen, the energy carrier for the heart, muscle, brain and all cells and tissues of the body. The alternation of oxygen deficiency and an increased oxygen supply is a training stimulus for the mitochondria. Weak mitochondria are disposed of, and efficient ones increase. The cells then use oxygen better, and the organs have more energy available again.
Where I use IHHT
I use IHHT when a disturbed energy supply of the cells is responsible for your symptoms. That is often the case in:
- Chronic exhaustion and ME/CFS
- Long COVID and post-vac syndrome
- Burnout
- Heart failure
- Hypertension
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Coronary heart disease
- Metabolic disorders and diabetes
- Overweight
- Decline in performance and regeneration
- Prevention and anti-aging
- Depression
Over a course of 10 sessions, an improvement of the symptoms and greater capacity are to be expected.
How a session runs
You lie relaxed and breathe through a mask. The air alternates in intervals between a phase with less and a phase with more oxygen. A session lasts 30 to 50 minutes. During that time I monitor pulse and oxygen saturation.
Where the method comes from
IHHT was developed from high-altitude and space-medicine research in Russia. This research examined how the body responds to the alternation between oxygen deficiency and an increased oxygen supply, and how the mitochondria adapt to it and increase their capacity.
